Journal 05/14 172-184 + final work day 05/16 in-class final essay *Remember, a literature journal (USE PAGE #s and SPECIFIC passages) will be required and a big part of your grade. Please keep this journal as we have discussed in class--it will be graded on thoroughness and your interaction with the text. If I can't see on the page how thorough that interaction is, I cannot give you credit for it. *Remember, too, that class discussion is also a vital part of your grade. I will assign points for each discussion. Up until this point, I've been quite generous. Be aware that the expectation is now clear and you've had time in the first 9 weeks to become comfortable. If you add to the discussion, you earn points. The more you add, the more you earn. If you don't add to the discussion, you don't earn points.
Parents and Students For all classes, both parents and students should expect regular homework as the general rule. Absences should be limited for success; when unavoidable, students are required to see me upon their return for assignments and for materials in order to be current. The designated meeting time is Homework Seminar, a daily meeting time for all students and teachers. English Department Class Work Policy: Work is due at the beginning of class unless an alternate time is given. Late work will be penalized by 50%. Late work is anything not turned in at the beginning of class or the alternate time. Late work will be accepted for one week. Excused absences will generally be given time equal to days missed in accordance with the high school A-B day policy. Incomplete work or failing staus (below 60%) will see a student placed on the weekly academic progress list. English Department Plagiarism Policy: Any student who plagiarizes a major paper or project will receive a zero credit for that assignment AND WILL FAIL THE COURSE. The same penalty will result if a student submits 3 or more daily assignments that are not his/her own work. Each English teacher will designate which projects will be considered major. Lesser projects and assignments will still receive a zero if they are compromised in any way. |
