Dori Harvey

FAMILY AND CONSUMER SCIENCE (FACS) / HEALTH

WELCOME!

I am so glad you took the time to visit my class webpage.  The picture is of me and my lazy, but loved cat Snowball.

I am passionate about teaching classes leading into the career pathways of FACS.  You might be saying, "WHAT?!  Career pathways, come on this used to be home ec and that is just for girls."  I would reply:

  1. Women have been working away from home since World War II, therefore major changes came in what is taught.  With changes came a much needed class name change to FACS.  Today, many find satisfying careers as a chef, a child care specialist, fashion merchandiser (clothing store), interior designer, and the thousands of other family and consumer science related careers.
  2. Men definitely become chef's, child specialist's, teacher's, family and financial counselor's, and even famous fashion designers.  Good Morning America's Chef Emerill (BAM!) is not shamed to share his passion for cooking and sharing these skills with Amercia.
  3. Personal finance classes have been the foundation of my ability to set financial goals, create a budget, and make wise spending decisions on food and other household needs.  This is emphacized in all of the classes I teach.
