CLASS GUIDELINES:
I strive to maintain a classroom atmosphere that is open and supportive and which allows students of varying opinions free expression, within the boundaries of appropriateness. Students and student ideas will be treated with respect in this classroom and each student will be expected to treat others and their ideas with respect as well, regardless of whether or not they agree with them. Failure to follow the behavior guidelines will result in disciplinary actions, as well as loss of class participation points.
BEHAVIOR GUIDELINES:
- Respect others: their opinions, their work, and as people; with your language, your attitude, your actions, your cooperation, and your effort. Disrespect or any form of harassment (even if you claim you are “only joking around”) will not be tolerated.
- Except during selected open group discussions, you should always raise your hand if you have something to say or need help.
- Use/touch equipment and supplies in this room only when instructed to do so.
- Be Prepared! Have your materials with you. This should include your textbook, pencil or pen, a notebook, and any other assigned supplies.
- Remain in your seat until dismissed after the bell rings.
- You should make use classroom journal entry daily and if you leave the room for any reason.
- Water bottles are strongly encouraged but must be filled before class.
ATTENDANCE:
- All assignments are due at the beginning of the block. They are expected to be completed, not almost done with you rushing to finish.
- Each assignment should have a header with your name, date, the class, and block.
- Assignments are due on their due dates or before including long term assignments, without exception, a 25% point deduction applies for each number calendar day (not class day).
- All assigned work is expected to be your own. Plagiarism, either of published work or the work of other students is dishonest and no credit will be given for the work.
- Group projects for which you are unprepared for or absent from work time become individual projects for you. Due date will be set within one week of absence or loss of group work privilege. Group members will not carry the work for non-participants, for any reason.
- Expect that work assigned for make up will involve more reading/ writing than what may have been done in class that day due to the inability to make up classroom discussion. Teacher discretion applies in this situation.
Typical Discipline Policy for Rule Violation:
- 1st offense: Verbal Warning and loss of daily participation points
- 2nd offense: Teacher/Student Conference and/ or note in grade book of reason for point loss
- 3rd offense: Detention notice sent to parent
- 4th offense: Referral to the principal
Exceptions with Predetermined Consequences:
- Hitting or fighting = Immediate referral to office
- Direct Defiance of the teacher, an associate, or substitute = Immediate referral to office
- Disrespect of others, including but not limited to: name calling, harassment, inappropriate language, swearing at another person, rude behavior, lying = detention·
