Mediapolis Prom

The lead up to Prom is always heavy on students' minds. They plan for months, sometimes even years, to find the right date, the perfect outfit and a group to go with. This last weekend all the energy was finally put into action. Last Saturday night Mediapolis hosted the 2023 Junior and Senior Prom at Myers Wedding Barn in Sperry, Iowa. More than a hundred students attended this event and danced the night away among the inflatable stars.

The theme was “Dancing Among the Stars”. Since January, the Prom Committee has worked to decide the theme, decorations, photographers, time and location of this event. Friday before the dance, they spent over 5 hours embellishing the venue with clouds and star decorations for the rest of their peers to enjoy.

Earlier that day at school, students gathered to be presented to the community at Grand March. Students enjoyed creating fun dances and handshakes they showed off during their march across the gym floor. For the Prom Court, their anxiety was at an all time high waiting for the final announcement of the winners. More than 60 people voted overall. This year's Prom King was Levi Arnold, son of Ed and Darcie Arnold. He will be attending SCC in the fall working towards a Welding Degree. This year's Prom Queen was Ava Russell, daughter of Lucas and Trisha Russell. Ava will be attending SCC next fall as well and plans to go on to receive her Licensed Independent Social Worker or masters in Christian Counseling.

Overall, the best part of prom was seeing students come together. As the DJ played a variety of songs, students danced their shoes right off their feet. The dance floor was filled with students of all ages spending the evening together laughing, dancing and causing a little raucous.

Thank you to all the students, parents, businesses and teachers who made this night possible!
