Dear Mediapolis Community,
I am writing to share updates on our response to this week’s extreme heat and a minor issue in our new elementary addition. To keep students safe, we have adjusted practice and game schedules as needed throughout the week. Notably, tonight’s Junior High home football game has been rescheduled to 6:30 p.m.
Although we released students early on Tuesday because of extreme heat, conditions are different today. Today’s peak temperatures coincide with our typical early release time, whereas conditions improve slightly by our normal dismissal time. As a result, we will follow our standard dismissal schedule today. Weather forecasts can shift rapidly, and we make these decisions using the best available information we have at the time to prioritize student safety and comfort.
When evaluating schedule adjustments, we consider several factors beyond building conditions, including student commute times. Many of our students ride non-air-conditioned buses for up to an hour. As an added measure, we ensure students stay hydrated with frequent water breaks during outdoor activities and before boarding the buses.
Additionally, we recently identified a broken pipe underneath the parking lot during construction of the new elementary addition, which became apparent as building occupancy increased at the start of the school year. Our construction team has located the leak, and repairs will require excavating a few parking stalls on the west side of the new lot. We expect to resolve this promptly, allowing us to reopen the restrooms in the new addition very soon. Please watch for signage and use caution to avoid these parking areas while work begins.
Thank you for your patience, flexibility, and continued partnership as we navigate these updates. Aside from a few minor adjustments, the school year has started off outstanding, and we are excited for what lies ahead.

Mediapolis CSD| Will have an early release time of 1:00 on Tuesday (9/1/26) due to buses traveling in extreme heat conditions. Practice times will be adjusted, please stay tuned for communication from various activity sponsors and coaches.
