Ag in the Classroom is back!
Last week, Des Moines County Farm Bureau kicked off their first classroom visit of the school year with our amazing 2nd graders!! They explored the world of field corn through the book My Family’s Corn Farm and learned how farmers plant, harvest, and store their crops. The students were fascinated to discover that field corn has over 4,000 uses—from ethanol and cereal to tortilla chips and even biodegradable packing peanuts!
Each student got to build their own farm-themed creation using these eco-friendly peanuts—just a little moisture and imagination! 🌎💡 We talked about how they’re non-toxic, biodegradable, and better for the environment than traditional packing materials.
It was a fun, hands-on way to connect agriculture with science, sustainability, and creativity. We’re excited for a great year ahead!

Our 4th graders enjoyed a special visit from the Larson family this past week! They shared how farming has changed over the years, what corn and soybean harvest looks like on their farm, and even how they use and export their products. Students also learned about livestock and how Jennifer creates beautiful charcuterie dishes using what’s grown on the farm.
A big thank you to Jennifer, Clint, Calvin, Jack, and Kathy for giving our students such a great learning experience!

Mediapolis Picture Days

Mediapolis CSD | Day 3: We share drone shots brought to you by our site supervisor, Mr. Strickland. The pictures show the near completion of the multipurpose classroom's precast walls and the beginning installation of reinforced bar joists as part of the roof system. This structure serves not only as a classroom and gymnasium but also features an extra-reinforced design to function as a safe room in the event of a weather emergency. Also, included in the pictures is our new PK-2 playground. We would like to thank our entire construction team, many of whom have ties to our community, for their efforts and continued hard work. #MEPOPride
