We were thrilled to welcome Iowa Attorney General Brenna Bird to Mediapolis Schools today, courtesy of the Des Moines County Sheriff's Department—huge thanks to them for escorting her and supporting our community!
Our outstanding 5th Grade Leadership Team shared all about the Leader in Me program and their leadership work this year. They proudly showed off our learning data walls and student-led mission statements; they were such impressive young leaders! We followed with a quick tour of our elementary addition, highlighting the great space coming next fall for our school community. The visit wrapped up in Ms. DeLang's history class, where students had the chance to ask thoughtful questions and engage directly with the Attorney General.
Proud of our students, staff, and school community for showcasing what makes Mediapolis special. Thank you, Attorney General Bird, for taking the time to visit and see our Bulldogs in action! #MEPOPride

After thoughtful internal collaboration with our stakeholders—teachers, staff, parents, and community members—we've finalized a more community-friendly calendar that better supports family time, rest, and recharge for everyone.
Exciting update for all buildings: Starting next year, school hours across the district will align to 8:10 a.m. – 3:30 p.m. This unified schedule, combined with the new dedicated pick-up/drop-off area at the elementary (thanks to our ongoing addition project), will make mornings and afternoons smoother, safer, and more consistent for families with students in multiple buildings. We're thrilled to present this updated calendar to you now! #MEPOPride

We're thrilled with the solid progress on the new addition to the Mediapolis Elementary. It's really coming together and will give our young Bulldogs even more amazing spaces to learn, grow, and thrive!
Here is a sneak peek as we begin building the incredible new Bulldog signage that will proudly be on display—our school spirit is stronger and fiercer than ever!
The new parking lot is set to start paving very soon, followed by pouring a brand-new driveway in partnership with the City of Mediapolis. These upgrades are all about boosting safety for drop-off and pick-up, making parking more convenient for families, and providing better access for events and community gatherings.
A massive thank you to our dedicated contractors, school staff, city partners, supporters, and the entire Mediapolis community for continuing to help make this vision a reality. #MEPOPride

Ryan Greiner Named Inaugural SEIBA Outstanding Young Teacher Award Recipient
Mediapolis, Iowa — Ryan Greiner, 5–12 Band Director at Mediapolis Community Schools, has been named the inaugural recipient of the Southeast Iowa Bandmasters Association (SEIBA) Outstanding Young Teacher Award. Members of the Southeast District selected Mr. Greiner for the honor in recognition of his exceptional accomplishments as an educator with three to seven years of teaching experience.
As the district award winner, Mr. Greiner will now represent the Southeast District at the state level for the Outstanding Young Teacher Award.
Mr. Greiner has served the Mediapolis band program since 2019, where he co-directs the 6th Grade Band, 7th & 8th Grade Band, High School Concert Band, and the MEPO Marching Band, and directs the Mediapolis Jazz Ensemble. In addition to leading ensembles, he provides private and small-group instruction for students in grades 5 through 12.
Under his leadership, Mediapolis ensembles have consistently earned Division I ratings at IHSMA Marching Band, Jazz Band, and Large Group Festivals. The Mediapolis Jazz Ensemble has been invited to compete at the Iowa Jazz Championships for the past two consecutive years. His students have been recognized as IHSMA Outstanding Performers and selected for both the Iowa All-State Band and the 8th Grade All-Iowa Band. A dedicated advocate for comprehensive music education, Mr. Greiner has encouraged strong participation in the IHSMA Solo & Ensemble Festival, resulting in more than 143 student events over the past six years.
The Southeast Iowa Bandmasters Association congratulates Mr. Greiner on this well-deserved recognition and looks forward to his continued impact on students and music education across the region.

The visit kicked off with an hour-long showcase of the amazing things happening every day in our classrooms and hallways—proof of the dedication and innovation driving Mediapolis forward. We then dove into a productive legislative advocacy session, highlighting key priorities to support rural Iowa schools in this year's session and for the long term. Rural education needs strong voices, and we're grateful for leaders who listen!
Next up: a sneak peek of our exciting new elementary addition and expansion project. This state-of-the-art space will deliver flexible classrooms, dedicated small-group instruction areas, and a multipurpose gym that serves as both a daytime learning space and community hub. Best of all, it opens the door to expanded early childhood offerings, giving even more young learners in our area a strong start.
The day wrapped up powerfully with a presentation from our outstanding Student Lighthouse Team, who shared the impactful projects they're leading this year. Then came the highlight: students took the floor for a thoughtful Q&A with school leaders, digging into how advocacy works in Iowa and why student voices and leadership truly matter.
Proud to see collaboration between educators, students, school board leaders, and legislators all focused on building brighter futures for rural Iowa kids. Thank you to everyone who made today possible—here's to continued progress and support for our schools! #MEPOPride
